New Delhi : In order to meet the current needs of the country’s aviation sector, the Government of India is going to change the 90-year-old British-era Aircraft Act-1934. For this, the government introduced a new bill in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. It has been named Indian Aircraft Bill-2024. It has a provision of imprisonment up to two years or fine up to one crore rupees or both, making strict rules against those making hoax calls.

The old bill has been amended 21 times in 90 years
In the Lok Sabha, Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu said that this bill will meet all the rules and regulations of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the needs of the country’s aviation sector today and in the future. The old bill was amended 21 times in 90 years. This bill will meet all those amendments and the needs of the rapidly growing aviation sector in the country.

However, when Civil Aviation Minister Naidu introduced this bill in the House, RSP MP N.K. Premachandran objected to naming the bill only in Hindi. He said that this is a violation of constitutional provisions. On this, Naidu said that no constitutional provision has been violated by naming it in Hindi. We have moved forward with our identity, there should be no problem in this. Naidu said that the objection to naming the bill was resolved during the discussion on three criminal laws – Indian Judicial Code, Indian Civil Defense Code and Indian Evidence Act.

Action will be taken under the Indian Judicial Code
It was told about the bill that action will be taken under the Indian Judicial Code and other laws for committing crime in it. Apart from that, this bill has a provision of imprisonment up to two years or a fine of up to one crore rupees against those who give false information about the presence of bombs, ammunition and other dangerous things in the flight. Also, if anyone within 10 km radius of the airport kills animals, skins them or causes such filth which can have a serious adverse effect on air traffic, then there is a provision of imprisonment up to three years and a fine of up to one crore rupees against him. The bill has been told what powers the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and other related agencies have in giving compensation to passengers, in case of flight accident, cancellation or delay.

How effective will the new law be?
The bill will give more power to aviation regulator DGCA and BCAS responsible for security. In the bill, the power of all these agencies has been increased during emergency. Experts say that the new bill will be passenger friendly. It has a provision for strict action along with imposing higher penalty for flight delays for a long time, cancellation without giving correct information and not providing facilities to onboard passengers as per the rules of the airlines. Along with this, strict action can also be taken against passengers if they misbehave with the crew members. The Aircraft Act, which was made 90 years ago, has been amended from time to time according to the needs. But, with the speed at which the Indian aviation sector is growing, a bill that meets the needs of today was needed. This new Indian Aircraft Bill-2024 will meet that.
