J.D. Vance’s Controversial ‘Cat Lady’ Remarks Spark Backlash as Trump Rallies Support

by time news

Childless women are “unhappy cat ladies,” said Republican vice-presidential candidate J.D. Vance once. For this comment, he is now facing heavy criticism. Donald Trump, however, is now smoothing over the statement, saying that Vance just believes that “family is a good thing.” Trump himself does not share the position of his sidekick.

The statement by Republican vice-presidential candidate J.D. Vance that childless women are “cat ladies” has been running like a loop through the U.S. media for days.

He called childless women “unhappy” in 2021, claiming they would make the rest of the country “unhappy” as well.

Trump backs Vance…

Despite increasing criticism of Vance’s past statements, he is receiving support from Donald Trump. In an interview with Fox News, the 78-year-old said: “He (Vance, ed.) grew up in a very interesting family situation and he thinks that family is a good thing. I think that’s something you can certainly say.”

Vance was mainly raised by his grandmother and wanted to highlight the values of the family model.

… but does not share his position

Trump himself does not share Vance’s position: “Maybe someone doesn’t meet the right person or anyone at all. But that doesn’t mean you can’t be just as good or even better than someone from a family situation.”

Vance is not only under criticism for his controversial statement about childless women. A leaked email exchange that was obtained by “The New York Times” has also caused a stir. He referred to Trump as a “demagogue” in it.

Vance himself had a spokesperson convey that he has changed his political views since then, especially since he has become a father.
