BOLZANO. At 3 pm, the bells of the churches throughout Alto Adige rang loud and clear to support the Caritas campaign “Hunger does not take a holiday”. The initiative promoted by the bishop Ivo Muse draws attention to the severe food crisis in the world. “The ringing of the bells is for the millions of people who do not have enough to eat, for the millions of girls and boys without a future. Especially at the hour of Jesus’ death, the ringing of the bells reminds us that the suffering of people in other parts of the world is something that concerns us”, says Bishop Ivo Muser, explaining the motivation for this initiative.
As the bishop clearly points out muses, the situation is dramatic: “They died silently, without media coverage. But we can do our part, including these women, men and children in our prayers and providing concrete support to alleviate their suffering”. “Hunger and poverty can be defeated. We see this concretely in our projects spread across several African countries, where we collaborate effectively with local partners”, adds the director of Caritas Beatrix Mairhofer.
“I particularly remember our school projects, which are designed to offer children not only education, but also an important nutritional supplement: the school meal is often the only one of the day. These projects, which reach 72,000 children, are only possible thanks to the donors from South Tyrol.”
