Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has declared a national day of mourning on July 31. Flags will be flown at half-mast as a mark of respect, the Palestinian Authority’s official news agency reported.

Although Abbas’s Fatah political movement has been at odds with Hamas since the latter seized control of Gaza in 2007, killing and driving out hundreds of Fatah members, Abbas nonetheless offered condolences.

Iran has declared three days of mourning for Haniyeh, state media reported. Hamas said a funeral ceremony would be held Thursday in Tehran, after which his body would be flown to Doha, the Qatari capital, for prayers and burial.

The funeral ceremony will take place at the Qatar National Mosque, the largest in the country. Haniyeh will be buried in Lusail, north of Doha, in the same cemetery where Qatar’s founder Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani is buried.

Earlier, we reported that Mahmoud Abbas condemned the killing of Haniyeh, calling it a “cowardly act and a dangerous development.” Palestinian national and Islamic factions called for a general strike and mass demonstrations in Judea and Samaria in response to the liquidation of Haniyeh.

Cursor also reported that Blinken spoke about the elimination of Haniyeh in Tehran.
