jpnn.comJAKARTA – The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) noted that rice prices at the milling, wholesale, and retail levels increased in July 2024, one of the causes of which was the main harvest season which had ended.

Acting Head of BPS Amalia A Widyasanti said the price of rice at the milling level reached IDR 12,816 per kilogram or increased by 2.22 percent compared to June 2024, which was recorded at IDR 12,537 per kilogram.

“Several factors are causing the price of rice to rise again, of course we have entered a period that is not a peak harvest,” he said in Jakarta, Thursday.

Amalia said the increase in rice prices also occurred at the wholesale and retail levels. The price of rice at the wholesale level reached Rp13,572 per kilogram from Rp13,434 and retail to Rp14,677 from Rp14,547 per kilogram in the previous month.

The rise and fall of rice prices, said Amalia, is a cycle that often occurs every year after the harvest season ends.

This means that the supply of rice in the market is starting to decrease, causing the price of rice to rise.

“The fluctuation in rice prices up and down is greatly influenced by the amount of supply or the amount of domestic rice production,” he said.

The increase in rice prices was also accompanied by an increase in the price of dry harvested grain (GKP) at the farmer level which has exceeded the government purchase price (HPP) of IDR 6,000 per kilogram.

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) revealed the causes of the increase in rice prices on the market.
