This Friday, August 2, an attack with drones and explosives against the National Army at the Casa Verde military base, located in the rural area of Ataco, Tolima, left one soldier injured.
According to military authorities, this is the first time that the Colombian National Army has managed to shoot down a drone before it could detonate.
The attack occurred when two drones approached the baseSecurity forces intercepted and destroyed the first drone before it could cause any damage. However, the second drone managed to detonate, injuring one soldier who was immediately taken to a medical facility for treatment.
“Military forces quickly deployed security measures and conducted an exhaustive search to identify those responsible for the attack,” said Hector Muñoz, mayor of Ataco.
Defense Minister Iván Velásquez had previously expressed the urgency of strengthening the country’s defensive capabilities. Although there are some anti-drone resources, these are insufficient in the face of the growing threat.

Colonel Carlos Luque, commander of the Sixth Army Brigade, attributed the attack to the Ismael Ruiz front of the Isaías Pardo central bloc of the FARC dissidents.It was shot down thanks to the skill of our soldiers who are alert to this type of unconventional weapons.“, he claimed.
The colonel said that military personnel have been adapting and developing techniques to mitigate the impact of this new war strategy used by dissidents in Cauca, Valle and now Tolima.
The wounded soldier was taken to a medical center where he was receiving medical attention.
