Sandra Cuevas, former mayor of Cuauhtémoc, compared herself to Yusuf Dikec, a Turkish shooter participating in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

The shooter from Turkey gained attention after winning the silver medal in the mixed 10-meter air pistol event. But, above all, he stirred controversy by achieving victory with less sophisticated equipment than that of his opponents and for the lack of concern he displayed while shooting with his other hand in his pocket.

It was in this context that the former Senate candidate made the comparison with the athlete.

In her message, she described herself as part of “the chosen ones”, people who emerge when they decide to succeed, just as Dikec did.

Through social media, she mentioned: “This is how we chosen ones are: We emerge from nothing at the moment we decide to succeed again and again. #OlimpiadasParís2024 #SandraCuevasMR.”

In her post, she added an illustration with a photo of the Turkish shooter at the center and a background landscape featuring the Sun, several trees, and the shadow of a group of horse riders.

The post quickly sparked criticism from her detractors and was soon deleted from the social network X.

This is not the first time Sandra Cuevas’s displays of self-esteem have become controversial. For example, in July of last year, she praised herself in such a way that criticism and mockery quickly followed.

“And not joking, eh, if I were not Sandra Cuevas, I would love Sandra Cuevas, I would want a woman like Sandra Cuevas, I love Sandra Cuevas, I am in love with Sandra Cuevas,” she stated at a public event.

In addition, the then-mayor recommended her supporters to follow her example, seeking personal growth, not “for anyone else, not for a boyfriend, because then the boyfriend finds any lint and leaves.”

Months later, in January of this year, she again caused controversy. In this case, it was due to an event in which she introduced the Organization for Family and Security in Mexico, which aims to become a political party in 2025.

In a display of flair that included fireworks and the song “Eye Of The Tiger” by Survivor, she entered the stage in a pristine white suit and a broad smile, greeting the attendees in the front rows of the venue.

Furthermore, she walked on a red carpet to her podium, where honors were paid to the Flag, which was held by military personnel.

The presentation included characteristic details of her events, including a rain of colorful confetti.

For their part, the attendees carried trumpets, drums, and banners featuring the image of the mayor, showing their support for the new project.

The former mayor was also accompanied on stage by a group of children and some pets, who hugged her at the end of the event.

After that event, Cuevas joined Movimiento Ciudadano and sought a Senate seat, running alongside Alejandra Barrales. However, she lost to Omar García Harfuch and Ernestina Godoy from the National Regeneration Movement (Morena).

The former mayor took the defeat with optimism and has shown signs of working on the Organization for Family and Security in Mexico.
