Alonso Correa continues to make history in the waters of Teahupo’o, Tahiti. The Peruvian surfer defeated Japanese Reo Inaba in a dramatic ‘heat’ in the quarter-finals of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games and qualified for the surfing semifinals, coming very close to a medal.

The national surfer continues to progress steadily in the competition. He reached this stage with a good performance in the previous rounds and once again demonstrated what he is made of. Despite the unfavorable sea conditions for both competitors, the representative of the ‘Team Peru’ managed to assert himself.

With the few optimal waves available, Correa seized his moment and achieved his best maneuver with a score of 6.33. In total, he reached 10.5 points and surpassed Reo Inaba, who had the best wave of the ‘heat’ (7.33) but did not have enough (10.16).

The Japanese rival could have changed the outcome in the final moments, but the waters of Teahupo’o did not help him achieve a better score. Thus, the Peruvian progressed to the ‘semis’, where he will face the French Kauli Vaast. This duel is scheduled for this Saturday, August 3.
