Colombo: Hardik Pandya is not playing the ODI series due to personal reasons, so the team management gave Shivam Dubey a chance to fill his void. After making his ODI debut against West Indies on 15 December 2019, Shivam Dubey was played in the second ODI today after 1691 days. In such a situation, Shivam Dubey proved his selection right and made a great start by taking the big wicket of Kusal Mendis in the 14th over. Shivam Dubey took one wicket for 19 runs in four overs. To dismiss Kusal Mendis, Shivam Dubey bowled a good length delivery, which was turning towards the right-hander. Kusal Mendis wanted to defend it, but completely missed connecting the ball with the bat. The ball hit his back leg and the Indian fielders appealed loudly. The umpire did not delay in raising his finger and thus the Mumbai all-rounder got his first ODI wicket. Mendis scored 14 runs in 31 balls. Shivam Dubey did not bowl in the T20 series.
Sri Lanka gave a target of 231 runs
Sri Lanka’s top order crumbled in front of India’s accurate bowling, but opener Pathum Nissanka (56 runs) and lower order batsman Dunith Welalage (67 not out) hit restrained half-centuries to help them score 230 for eight in the first ODI cricket match here on Friday. Nissanka scored 56 runs in 75 balls with nine fours while Welalage scored 67 runs in 65 balls with seven fours and two sixes.
For India, Axar Patel (2/33) and Arshdeep Singh took two wickets each while Kuldeep Yadav, Washington Sundar, Mohammed Siraj and Shivam Dube took one wicket each.
