Serious Traffic Accident in Tysvær Involving Seven People; Road Closed for Investigation

– The person who was trapped has been cut free and has been transported to Stavanger University Hospital, says incident commander in the police, Hans Christian Dahl, to NRK.

At 1:45 PM, emergency services were called to a traffic accident in Tysvær along the E39 near Grinde.

According to the police, the accident appeared to be serious, and it is.

Head-on collision

The traffic accident involves a head-on collision at high speed, with seven people involved.

Five people have been taken by ambulance to Haugesund Hospital and one person has been transported by air ambulance to Stavanger University Hospital, Dahl informs.

Initially, it was reported that the latter was critically injured, but later the severity of the injuries was downgraded to serious.

One person has also been taken to the emergency room.

– Everyone walked out on their own two feet, except for the one who was taken out, says Dahl.

A total of three vehicles are involved in the accident, and the cars have substantial material damage.

Witnesses have suggested that the vehicles were traveling at around 70 kilometers per hour before the crash, the police report.

Initially, NRK wrote that five people were involved. After the police got a full overview, it was determined that seven individuals were involved in the accident.

The road will be closed for a while

The police were quick to call for both extra police forces and the air ambulance.

Now, the Norwegian Public Roads Administration’s accident group and the police’s forensic technicians have also been called in.

– No vehicles will be removed until this is clarified in consultation with the accident group, Knudsen explains.
