American rock band Aerosmith has announced that due to permanent damage to frontman Steven Tyler’s voice, he is ending concert activities. The group, which last year celebrated 50 years on the scene with several performances and whose members are all over 70 years old, has canceled the remaining dates and will no longer perform. She won’t even come to Prague, where she had to cancel a concert planned for 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

People last heard about the decision of the formation last September 9 in Elmont, New York, the AP agency reported.

“Steven Tyler has been working tirelessly over the past months to get his voice back to its previous condition. Despite having the best doctors by his side, it has not been successful. We regret to announce that a full recovery from this vocal injury is not possible,” wrote Aerosmith on Friday night on social network Instagram. “So it is with a heavy heart that we as a band have made the heartbreaking decision that we will no longer be touring,” they added.

Tyler damaged his voice last September shortly after the band began their 50th anniversary tour. Just after the third evening, he announced that damage to his vocal cords had caused him to bleed. When it became clear that his condition was more serious, the group postponed the rest of the concert schedule. Until now, she had hoped to gradually replace individual stations with listeners, adds Variety.com.

According to him, it is not clear whether the damage to the voice is such that Tyler will never sing again even in a recording studio. Aerosmith last released a new album in 2012, called Music From Another Dimension.

Seventy-six-year-old Steven Tyler’s voice has accompanied the group for decades and sounds in all their hits such as Crazy, Janie’s Got a Gun or Livin’ on the Edge. “We’ve always wanted you to leave our concerts feeling excited. Steven sang like no one else. We were so honored to have our music become a part of yours,” Aerosmith said to fans.

The band has been around since 1970 and has won four Grammy Awards. In addition to singer Tyler, it consists of 73-year-old guitarist Joe Perry, a year younger second guitarist Brad Whitford with bassist Tom Hamilton and 74-year-old drummer Joey Kramer. He did not take part in the last performances, he argued with his teammates. Officially, he missed last year’s farewell tour “for health reasons”.

Aerosmith were at the height of their popularity around the turn of the millennium. In 1999, an attraction at the Disney theme park in Florida was named after them, two years later they performed at halftime of the American Football League’s Super Bowl and entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

“Non-conformist rockers from Boston are one of the few bands of the Stones’ early hard rock style that have remained at the forefront of popularity to this day. They are a rock institution that has no parallels, especially in the USA,” wrote critic Josef Vlček about them in Hospodářské noviny.

Aerosmith announced the 50th anniversary tour last year. “You can never predict how long our health will serve us,” recalled guitarist Joe Perry at the time, when Aerosmith last toured in 2017-2018.

They performed four times in the Czech Republic, most recently in 2010 in Prague’s O2 arena. They performed a show full of light effects and video projections, including footage from the movie Armageddon, to which they composed the song I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing. Dressed in a white tank top with black patterns, Tyler constantly interacted with the audience, leaving them to sing along at times.

They were supposed to return to Prague’s O2 arena four years ago. However, the concert, like other planned European performances, had to be postponed and ultimately canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
