Held under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, this edition aims to explore the theme of “The city of tomorrow, from the virtuous city to the smart city” with the aim of creating a city that combines the elements of the two concepts of this ideal city and smart city, seeking to reconcile social and environmental aspects with the advantages of smart technologies for the city of the future.
This theme is of capital importance given the rapid evolution of the scientific and economic world, its ramifications and its impact on daily life, affirmed, on this occasion, the president of the Ribat Al-Fath Association, Abdelkrim Bennani, noting that it has become necessary to talk about sustainable cities and smart cities due to the evolution of technologies, artificial intelligence and speed which have transformed behaviors, knowledge and people’s outlook on present and future ideas.
He also noted that the virtuous and ideal city based on noble values, which has attracted the interest of philosophers and thinkers, aims to achieve justice, equity and equality among citizens in order to ensure their happiness and well-being, considering that modern technologies aim to improve people’s lives and simplify the conditions of their belonging to their environment.
And to emphasize that it is time to absorb all these new technologies to welcome and establish modernity, as well as to establish new conditions aimed at making people happy, through new urban services, such as water and electricity distribution, energy management, improvement of transport and mobility networks, waste management, public security and health services.
For her part, the Minister of National Land Planning, Urban Planning, Housing and Urban Policy, Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri, assured, in a speech read on her behalf by the Secretary General of the Ministry, Youssef Hosni, that the future of Morocco remains dependent on the supervision of its territorial hinge which involves the strengthening and development of its urban system, which is an integral part of the spatial system.
She noted that cities are centres of production and exchange, leadership and authority, and play a fundamental role in the dynamics of development of the lives of their populations.
For his part, the Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, stressed that the virtuous city of Al-Farabi and the future smart city form a single entity, considering that virtue, equity and responsibility are values that can only be spread in a practical, intelligent, efficient and dynamic framework, so as to ensure the meeting and fusion between the ethical city and the smart city in the future, provided that the latter is also a talking city.
Digital planning, as an effective means to facilitate access for all categories to basic public services, is a crucial issue for the city of Rabat, noted, on the other hand, the mayor of Rabat, Asmaa Rhlalou, noting that the development of the capital and its transformation into a smart city capable of meeting the needs of citizens in various fields, is a real challenge that calls on local elected officials to design a future city capable of meeting these needs in the fields of education, health, public transport and others.
For his part, the director of the magazine “Les temps modernes”, Abdallah Alaoui Belghiti, stressed that the transition to the smart city takes into account not only solidarity, but also the humanization of modern technologies which allow the promotion of living together.
The “Florilège culturel” Festival is marked by the holding of conferences and round tables, in the presence of thinkers, experts and specialists in order to explore the synergies between traditional morality and technological advances.
Organized by the Ribat Al-Fath Association for Sustainable Development in partnership with the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication (Culture Department), this cultural event addresses crucial topics such as promoting citizens’ well-being, ethical behavior, environmental protection policies, anti-poverty programs and citizen participation initiatives.
