French industrial production rebounded in June, driven mainly by a jump in transport equipment, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (Insee) published today and cited by DPA.

Industrial production registered a monthly increase of 0.8 percent in June, against a 2.2 percent decline in May. However, this is below the expected growth of 1 percent. Industrial production also rose 0.8 percent after May’s 2.7 percent decline.

Production of transport equipment rose 3.4 percent, reflecting a recovery in the production of vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers. Production of coke and refined petroleum products rose by 12.3 percent.

Mining, energy and water also increased moderately by 0.7 percent.

On the other hand, the production of machinery and equipment goods decreased by 1.1 percent.

Output in the construction sector jumped 1.8 percent, offsetting a 0.9 percent decline the previous month.

In the second quarter, industrial production shrank by 0.6 percent from the previous quarter, and manufacturing fell by 0.9 percent.

According to data published this week, the French economy grew by 0.3 percent in the second quarter, better than expected, thanks to investments and exports, BTA reported.
