A Popular Action filed by the entire community, in response to all the problems facing the sector and which was to be complied with by the Dosquebradas Mayor’s Office, took many residents of the main avenue of this commercial sector by surprise.
The intervention was carried out on the entire median and a few people from the community have shown their opposition to this measure, saying that although the median was being asked for, they do not understand why so many plants were cut down. However, one cannot expect a tree to work miracles when the poor management of waste generates greenhouse gases that are the biggest environmental problem.
The Mayor’s Office announced that this strategy has three fronts: 1. Environmental sustainability with the management of organic waste, cleaning and beautification, 2. Security and surveillance in the communes, districts and food safety control, 3. Tourism strengthening to continue as the Tourist Window of the coffee axis.
The Secretariat in charge
Luz Yasmid López, Secretary of Agricultural Development and Environmental Management, indicated that “We are starting with the separator, because the sentence of the third courts was received
and sixth, because that is one of the actions we must take, since the median became a focus of insecurity that was rigged for thieves, so the merchants had to take care of each other and by clearing it we helped them with this. In addition, the median was full of rodents, it was suitable for the disposal of waste and it was a risk for pedestrians who crossed the street with poor visibility.”
According to López, Mayor Jiménez’s mission is to transform Dosquebradas into a clean, safe and innovative city. “The main avenue is the one that attracts tourists and allows businesses to grow much more. It will be planted with palm trees and grass, because these two species are the ones that the Municipality can maintain, through Serviciudad, and there will be no additional cost for merchants for garden maintenance,” said the official.
The avenue was also visited with the secretariats of Public Works and Traffic, because the idea is to organize the median with zebra crossings and pedestrian crossings. “This is an inter-institutional work between Atesa, Serviciudad, Public Works, Traffic, the Secretariat of Agricultural Development and Environmental Management, Carder and the National Police,” said secretary Luz Yasmid.
Additional works
Felipe Mejía, Secretary of Public Works, commented on what will be related to his office: “I am in charge of the curbs and some additional constructions, such as elevated pedestrian crossings (Pompeian) to improve the issue of reduced mobility. These bushes of the median were too irregular and it was becoming a health issue, tall plants lend themselves to the issue of restaurant waste and attract rodents. I know that they are going to plant forage peanuts that look small and pretty.”

791 merchants are present in the La Pradera, Milan and Santa Monica industrial estates.
Given
Training sessions will be held with Carder on environmental citizenship culture. Currently, work is being done to promote safe spaces that respect the environment.
Do you agree or disagree with the intervention?
Catalina Ocampo – merchant
“For me it was positive, because you can see the store better and there is better visibility. My husband was almost robbed and it was not possible to see it through the cameras because the bushes covered it, they were too high.”
Gloria Villada – resident of La Pradera
“I don’t think so, because they removed a lot of trees and plants that the same people planted. We’ll have to see how it turns out, because the truth is that it does look very sad like this.”
Diana Milena Vergara – trader
“Perfect. I think it benefits us all a lot, because of the visual pollution issue, it was very ugly, it was not properly maintained. To avoid the issue of thieves, we are much better off like this.”
Nubia Ospina – passerby
“Very well, we are very happy, because that garbage that was formed there on garbage days, that is, every day, is coming to an end.”
Sandra Hernandez – trader
“It was great that they cleaned and organized, that they planted other trees. The other thing is that we all agree on some containers, because we already collaborated by having the garbage inside, but for it to continue being beautiful we need a point.”
