Dr. Khaled Al-Mabrouk Abdullah, Minister of Finance in the Government of National Unity, and his accompanying delegation participated in the meeting of the African Caucus at the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.

The meeting was held in the Nigerian capital, Abuja, during the period from 01-03/08/2024, under the slogan “Facilitating trade between African countries and stimulating sustainable development in Africa.”

The meetings were opened by the Prime Minister of Nigeria, representing the Nigerian President, and were attended by finance ministers and central bank governors of African countries and several senior officials from regional and international development finance institutions.

The meetings addressed many important topics such as facilitating trade and supporting regional integration between African countries, as well as digital transformation on the continent and its impact on the development and improvement of payment systems, in addition to ways to benefit from the services provided by regional and international development institutions.

After three days of discussions, the African Group Governors of the Bretton Woods Institutions issued the Abuja Declaration, in which they stressed the importance of intra-African trade as a catalyst for sustainable development and the role of sustainable finance in promoting economic development, and expressed their commitment to strengthening the payment system across Africa.

They also pointed out the need to empower the private sector and strengthen its partnership with the public sector. Through this declaration, the participants urged all regional and international institutions to increase the support provided to African countries in a manner consistent with achieving the sustainable development goals.
