Gapyeong-gun, honored with ‘Excellence Award’ at National Manifesto Contest

Gapyeong-gun won the ‘Excellence Award’ at the National Manifesto Competition. Gapyeong-gun (Governor Seo Tae-won) was honored with the ‘Excellence Award’ at the ‘2024 National Basic Local Government Heads Manifesto Best Practice Competition’ co-hosted by the Korea Manifesto Implementation Headquarters and Gyeongnam Research Institute.

According to the military on the 2nd, this competition was held on July 30th and 31st with 186 cases selected after a first round of document screening from a total of 353 cases solicited from 148 local governments across the country.

Gapyeong-gun participated in the community strengthening category among a total of 7 fields with the theme of ‘Establishing a Resident-led Network Hello Gapyeong Net’ and received an award for excellence in a presentation of an activity case through cooperation between the public and private sectors. The presentation results revealed that the project received high evaluations in terms of suitability, creativity, communication, scalability, and tangibility.

Hello Gapyeong Net is a project that activates the local circular economy and continues activities through human and material resource discovery and sharing activities for mutual growth between local communities. As a result of the project, it achieved results such as creating a resident-led village community ecosystem and enhancing local community self-reliance through activating the resident network, and received the Gyeonggi Province Governor’s Award as an excellent village community case at the ‘2023 Gyeonggi Village Community Festival’ event.

A military official said, “We supported the Hello Gapyeong Net project to encourage various types of communities to share resources and knowledge information in order to promote resident-led sustainable activities,” adding, “Through this, we laid the foundation for promoting mutual growth and sharing of various human and material resources among local communities.”

Governor Seo Tae-won said, “This award at the Manifesto Best Practice Competition is the result of the county and its citizens working together to find ways to develop the local community and actively putting them into practice.” He added, “We will continue to do our best to discover more best practices and improve the quality of life for our citizens by actively promoting the pledges of the 8th local government.”

Meanwhile, this manifesto best practice competition was conducted targeting excellent pledges and policies in a total of 7 areas: △improving jobs and employment environment, △alleviating social inequality, △alleviating economic inequality, △responding to changes in population structure, △climate, environment, and ecology, △revitalizing local culture, and △strengthening communities.
