The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora of Kosovo announced that on Friday it sent a note of protest to North Macedonia, in which it demanded explanations regarding the incident with the President of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani at the airport in Skopje, MIA reported.
For its part, the Presidency of Kosovo expressed its dismay at the “unacceptable actions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of North Macedonia” as well as at the “propaganda that is being developed against the Republic of Kosovo”.
According to the Kosovo authorities, a security officer at the airport in Skopje tried to take Vyosa Osmani’s personal phone, and there was also an attempt to physically push her away, reports BTA.
In the message of the Kosovo presidency, it is specified that during the incident, Osmani only refused to give her phone for scanning, which she uses as the head of state for official communication and for issues in the field of national security.
The statement dismissed as false the claims that Osmani refused to give her bag for inspection as well.
Instead of apologizing, “the Ministry of the Interior of North Macedonia fully justified the request of airport security to take and scan the personal phone of the president of the Republic of Kosovo,” the Kosovo presidency said in a statement, describing Thursday’s incident as “pure provocation.” and intent to cause an incident”.
