The radio host and music critic Massimo Cotto has passed away. His wife Chiara Buratti announced the news with heartfelt words: “You will continue to blow in the wind. No one will ever forget you. I promise you.”
Cotto was born in Asti on May 20, 1962, and began his career at a private radio station before moving to Radio Rai, where over time he presented many events and programs (such as seven editions of Stereonotte). From 1999 to 2003, he was the music director of Rai Radio 1. He later worked at Radio 24 and had been with Virgin Radio since 2012.
Virgin remembers him this way: “Last night Massimo Cotto left us. We want to be the ones at Virgin Radio, his (second) home, to tell you this, because Massimo was one of us. Massimo was a phenomenal host but also much more. His interviews were masterful. An extraordinary journalist, writer, author, theater actor, always eager to tell and (enchant) surprise those in front of him or listening. In 2012, he became part of the Virgin Radio family, sharing the craziness of great rock artists through Rock Bazar segments, and from 2016 he was on air every morning in Rock and Talk with Dr. Feelgood (Maurizio Faulisi) and Cavaliere Nero (Antonello Piroso). Over the years he always greeted us with good morning and his unmistakable humor (we will never forget his jokes), keeping us company with an endless passion for music and all forms of art. We are close to his family (Chiara, Francesco, and his mother Marisa) and to all of you who, like us, loved and appreciated him. Goodbye Massimo, safe travels.”
Cotto also worked as a writer and presenter for television and theater, focusing mainly on music-related topics, and as a journalist. He wrote for the historic Italian magazine Il mucchio selvaggio since 1984, for various Italian and international newspapers and magazines. Cotto published several books: biographies of Italian singers and monographic interview collections with personalities from entertainment and culture.
