Gangnam-gu, which achieved the highest number of medical tourists ever, participated in the Vietnam Medi-Pharm Expo this time. Gangnam-gu (Mayor Seong-myeong Cho), a city where dreams gather and a city that draws the future, participated in the Vietnam Medi-Pharm Expo held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam from the 1st to the 3rd with 6 medical tourism cooperative organizations of Gangnam-gu to attract medical tourists.
As of 2023, the number of Vietnamese medical tourists visiting Gangnam-gu was 5,162, the 6th largest after Japan, China, the US, Thailand, and Singapore, and it is a market that increased by 84% compared to the previous year (2,806 people). There are 40,000 patients visiting overseas hospitals annually, and patients visiting Korea have high demand for integrated internal medicine, plastic surgery, dentistry, and dermatology treatment, and there is a lot of interest in Korean medical tourism, which has cutting-edge medical technology and world-class medical staff.
Now in its 22nd year, ‘Vietnam Medipharm’ is an international medical, hospital and pharmaceutical exhibition hosted by the Vietnamese Ministry of Health and the Vietnam Trade Fair and Advertising Corporation (VINEXAD). 400 companies from 22 countries are participating and 450 booths are open. The district is participating in the exhibition with 6 hospitals: ▲Dream Plastic Surgery Clinic ▲DA Plastic Surgery Clinic ▲Pride Plastic Surgery Clinic ▲Gangnam Central Eye Clinic ▲Le Dental Clinic ▲Podo Women’s Clinic, and is operating the ‘Gangnam-gu Medical Tourism Promotion Center’ for 3 days.
The district is targeting Vietnamese tourists by promoting the best medical tourism service in Korea. ▲’One-stop concierge service’ that provides safe pick-up and interpretation throughout the entire process from entry to departure ▲’Medical Gangnam’, a medical tourism platform where you can search Gangnam-gu medical tourism information at once and make consultations and reservations ▲’Gangnam Medical Tour Center’, a comprehensive community center for Gangnam medical tourism, etc.
On the first day of the opening of the PR center, about 2,000 people visited and received experiences and medical consultations, and 37 business meetings were held. The ‘Medical Device Experience Zone’ where visitors can check their skin and hair loss conditions and experience eye care devices, as well as the specialized services of each medical institution, caught the attention of visitors. In addition, by participating in the Medipharm Conference, a side event of the expo, they introduced Gangnam-gu’s medical tourism business and specialized medical fields of each medical institution, thereby laying the foundation for attracting patients and advancing into the local market.
The district visited the Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Department to discuss mutual administrative support for aftercare services. Aftercare services can increase the safety and reliability of Gangnam-gu medical tourism for medical tourists, as they can receive surgery in Gangnam-gu and receive treatment at local hospitals with which they have an agreement. The district and six cooperative medical institutions plan to visit five Vietnamese medical institutions, including TAM TRI-SAIGON and GANGWHOO Hospital, and two travel agencies to specify mutual cooperation and aftercare services.
Gangnam-gu Mayor Cho Seong-myeong said, “Last year, Gangnam-gu achieved the highest number of medical tourists ever with 180,000 based on its world-class medical technology and tourism infrastructure,” and added, “We will continue to actively attract medical tourists with customized promotional strategies for each country to solidify Gangnam’s status as a medical tourism city in the international market.”
