Speaking at a press briefing held with the Wali of Bank Al-Maghrib (BAM), Abdellatif Jouahri, the Queen affirmed that in recent years Morocco has made significant progress in financial inclusion, thanks to the efforts of the public sector.
In this context, the Queen stressed that 44% of Moroccan adults have access to formal financial services, an improvement compared to 29% in 2017.
She also highlighted the importance of the National Strategy for Financial Inclusion (SNIF) adopted by Morocco, which provides the possibility of changing many practices and the opportunity to achieve even more ambitious objectives.
Furthermore, the Special Mandate of the SG of the UNSGSA said that about 75% of people still make payments in cash, calling for opting for digital payment, which will allow for more access to credit, savings, investment in education and access to insurance.
Speaking about the importance of financial inclusion, the Queen noted that it opens up economic opportunities and improves living conditions by providing people with the financial tools they need to invest.
Likewise, she assured that affordable, efficient and safe financial services can promote equitable growth and progress in achieving development goals, such as poverty reduction, employment growth, gender equality and food security.
This visit, the first to Morocco by the special representative of the Secretary General of the UNSGSA, Queen Máxima of the Netherlands, aims to promote greater progress in the field of financial inclusion made in recent years by Morocco.
It focuses on financial technology innovations, green and inclusive finance, and the development of digital payment systems that promote financial inclusion.
