A professor who advocates a ‘slow-aging diet’ in the news-oriented direction has sparked controversy after giving his elementary school-aged son a slow-aging diet.

A clinical assistant professor of geriatrics at a large hospital in Seoul recently posted a photo of a plate with the caption, “My son’s dinner in the 4th grade of elementary school” on his X (Twitter) account.

On the plate were bowls containing side dishes such as rice, anchovies, flounder, fish cakes, and seaweed. However, the amount of side dishes seemed to be extremely small compared to what the average person would eat.

Professor A said, “Slow-aging rice for my son and grilled flounder with coconut oil,” and explained, “The composition of slow-aging rice for my son is 35% beans and grains, 15% glutinous rice, and 50% white rice.”

Netizens who saw the plate responded with, “Are you eating this little side dish?”, “There’s no kimchi either?”, “Isn’t this child abuse?”, “That child must be really skinny. There aren’t any vegetables either”, “Wouldn’t they collapse if they ate that much?”

When the controversy arose, Professor A said, “The post is popular. I took the picture while eating, and I try to eat healthy for dinner. I let them eat snacks or snacks outside freely,” and revealed a snack box in the house. The snack box contained snacks such as granola, rice cake, chocolate, and potato chips.

Professor A explained, “The reason why eating accelerated aging foods when young is bad is because aging and growth share many paths,” and “If nutritional distortion occurs due to accelerated aging foods, the growth trajectory becomes distorted. It is not accelerated growth.”

He continued, “The possibility of developing metabolic diseases such as childhood obesity and precocious puberty increases. As a result, they may grow shorter than their natural height,” and “The problem continues into adulthood. They may suffer from chronic diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure at an earlier age, and they are also more likely to have problems with their reproductive function.”

He added, “It is a dialogue software that you have to use for the rest of your life. If you use it wrongly when you are young, you will have worse results for a longer period of time.”

In response to Professor A’s rebuttal, netizens responded with comments such as, “There are a lot of cases of childhood diabetes around me these days, so it would be good for the health of children if they were fed this kind of diet,” “I don’t understand why people are calling it child abuse just because they feed them this,” “It seems like children wouldn’t get sick if they were fed healthy food at least for dinner,” and “I’m embarrassed that I criticized them when I didn’t know anything.”
