Kiril Milov lost his heavyweight debut at the Paris Olympics. He finished 1:1 with the Cuban with a Chilean passport, Yasmani Fernandez Acosta, but his opponent took the last point.
The first part ended 1:0 for the Bulgarian after a warning for the Chilean’s passivity. Immediately after the start of the second period, Kiril Milov was also warned. The Chilean was taken down once more, but our man was unable to apply a hold on him.
“It’s not serious. That was my tactic, to be passive at the beginning, and the referee took him down. Not a single hold, but these are the rules,” said the Bulgarian wrestler after the match.
Four months ago, Milov underwent a major operation due to detachment of thigh muscles and managed to recover. The quota in this category was given to us additionally, due to the refusal of the Russian wrestlers from the Olympics and the performance of Georgi Ivanov at the pre-Olympic tournament in Baku.
At the moment, Kiril weighed in at 105 kilograms, and his opponent – at 124.
“I have always said that quality is more than quantity,” said Milov. “But this is not my category. I like to fight, to make grips. Now I am starting to prepare for the next Olympic cycle,” he added. “And with the heavyweights, I can fight until I’m 70 years old with their training,” Milov added.
However, Kiril Milov has a chance to continue in the repechage, after his opponent won his second match after 2:1 over Abdelatif Mohamed from Egypt. In the semi-final, he will meet the Chinese Linzhe Meng.
