England announced the team ahead of the upcoming Sri Lanka series. Oper Jack Crowley is out of the team due to injury. Dan Lawrence has joined the team as a new face in his place. Jordan Cox got a chance in the Test team for the first time in this series.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced the 14-man squad for the three-match series against Sri Lanka in a press release on Sunday (August 4).
Crowley wasn’t the only one knocked out in this series. Dillon Pennington’s forehead burned with him. The fast bowler suffered a hamstring injury while playing in the ‘The Hundred’ tournament. Ollie Stone got a chance in his place.
Crowley hurt his right little finger while taking a catch at slip in the Edgbaston Test against the West Indies last week. Later, the 26-year-old opener was ruled out of ‘The Hundred’ and the Sri Lanka series when a tear was detected in the test.
Lawrence, who got a chance to open, last played for the national team in 2022. 23-year-old Cox is the backup batsman in the squad. This youngster is in great form for Essex this season. Scored 763 runs with 3 centuries at an average of 69.36 in 12 innings in the County Championship.
The first test will start on August 21 at Old Trafford. The next two matches start from August 29 and September 6 respectively.
