The manager of the Freeport of Riga, Ansis Zeltiņš, when evaluating the change of owners of “KS Terminal”, emphasizes: “The entry of such important global players as the “Kronospan” group into the service business of the port of Riga can undoubtedly be evaluated very positively. For the company “KS Terminal” and the port in general, it provides a more stable cargo base and a more secure outlook in the future. At the same time, the deal concluded by “Kronospan” sends a signal to other foreign investors that the business environment and investment conditions in the port of Riga are favorable, safe and suitable for long-term projects.”
Vivita Vāvere-Ozola, member of the board of “Kronospan Riga” and “KS Terminal”, states that the purpose of purchasing the terminal is to ensure the export of production produced by “Kronospan” to the USA, Great Britain and Scandinavian countries, to ensure the unloading and delivery of raw materials for the needs of the factory, as well as to attract new customers to the terminal customers and cargo to maximize the terminal’s potential. At the same time, the development of an investment plan is started with the aim of ensuring and modernizing the transshipment of various bulk cargoes and other types of timber, providing a high level of service to the terminal’s customers.
According to the indicators of cargo turnover, “KS Terminal” is the fourth largest cargo terminal of the Port of Riga. In the first half of this year, the terminal handled 0.67 million tons of various cargoes, which accounted for 7.6% of the port’s total cargo turnover. “KS Terminal” is a multi-functional terminal that provides transshipment services of various bulk cargoes and general cargoes in the territory of the Port of Riga on Krievu Island. The largest cargo groups handled are timber, agricultural bulk cargo, chemical bulk cargo and stone chips.
