Tadej Pogacar once again asserted his dominance on the roads of the Tour de France on Friday.
The Slovenian secured his yellow jersey by winning solo at Isola 2000, marking his fourth stage victory in this Grand Tour, which will conclude on Sunday.
After trailing the breakaway by about 3’30 at the start of the final climb, Tadej Pogacar delivered another display of strength on the ascent to Isola 2000. He finished with a 21” lead over his nearest rival, Matteo Jorgenson, the last survivor of the breakaway, whom he “swallowed” with 2 km to go.
Importantly, Pogacar once again dealt a blow to his two main contenders in the general classification. Jonas Vingegaard and Remco Evenepoel crossed the line 1’42 behind the Slovenian, finishing in 5th and 6th positions, respectively. The Dane now stands more than five minutes behind overall, while the Belgian is over seven minutes back!
Having won six stages during his triumph at the Giro d’Italia this spring, Tadej Pogacar can still hope to achieve similar success in this Grand Tour. He must perform well both in the Col de la Couillole on Saturday and in the Monaco-Nice time trial on Sunday, which he seems perfectly capable of doing.
