The authorities threatened put everyone in jail participated in the riots
A number of English cities have been gripped by violence, arson and looting after far-right groups staged anti-immigrant protests over the weekend. Dozens of police officers were injured and hundreds of rioters were arrested.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer called an emergency meeting of the Cobra crisis committee on Monday to decide how to deal with what some English media described as very close to national chaos. Two hotels housing foreigners seeking asylum in the UK have been attacked by masked youths. Some of their windows were broken and some of their doors were set on fire.
They are mosques measured with stones and bombs
and had to suspend their services indefinitely. In some cities, far-right protesters have taken the liberty of stopping cars to check whether immigrants or “white Englishmen” are driving in them.
Their protest actions began after a 17-year-old black boy attacked small children with a knife during a summer seminar in the English city of Southport a week ago. He managed to kill three girls and seriously injured 6 others, as well as their two teachers. Because the killer was a minor, his identity was initially withheld, as required by British law. However, this led to a series of online speculations and claims that he was an illegal immigrant, well known to the British special services for other crimes. And although the police dismissed them and the judge in the murder case allowed his name to be released, calls for anti-immigrant protests intensified. This time the argument was that although the killer himself was born in Britain, his parents were from Rwanda.
These are not protests, but violence, commented the British Prime Minister after the “Cobra” meeting. Starmer said he had an army of police ready to step in if the unrest continued. The special services are also hot on the heels of their online masterminds, and the courts are ready to work around the clock to quickly put the criminals on England’s streets behind bars.
The mainly Muslim community is targeted by the protesters. Therefore, mosques will also receive additional security so that they can resume their services and people can return to them for prayers without fear.
The Prime Minister commented that what was happening was “extreme right-wing banditry” that had no place in British society. His words were also confirmed by dozens of volunteers who gathered hours after the attacks to clean and restore what was destroyed by the masked youths.
However, MPs insisted
to be disconnected the summer one vacation of parliament,
for the riots show what a serious problem ever-increasing immigration has become in the Island. They say much more radical legislation is needed to tackle violence on England’s streets, but also to stop the thousands of foreigners arriving illegally in the UK on inflatable boats across the English Channel.
Malaysia and Nigeria were the first to warn their citizens to be careful when traveling to Britain, staying away from protest sites as there is an increased risk of violence and disorder.
An employee at one of the immigrant hotels attacked told the BBC they had to build barricades with fridges and furniture until police could push back the protesters and evacuate the building’s 240 residents. He described the experience as absolutely terrifying.
