Paraguayan Swimmer Luana Alonso Expelled from Olympic Village After Stunning Retirement Announcement

by time news

The Paraguayan swimmer Luana Alonso (20) dropped a bombshell earlier in the Olympics.

The 20-year-old announced her retirement live on air after she was eliminated in her heat for the 100-meter butterfly.

– It didn’t go as I wanted. I sincerely apologize to my entire country, but I did what I could, despite everything that has happened to me before, she said according to Expressen, and continued:

– I am pleased to end my career in front of a full arena at the Olympics.

Now it is clear that Alonso must leave the athletes’ village, but it is not by her own initiative.

– Her presence creates an inappropriate atmosphere in the Paraguayan team, says former tennis player Larissa Schaerer, who is now the secretary-general of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee.

It is unclear what Alonso has done to create the atmosphere that Schaerer refers to.

According to the website El Avance, the 20-year-old temporarily left the athletes’ village after her fiasco in the heat.

Alonso is said to have taken a run through Paris and visited several attractions in the city of love. The outing ended with a visit to Disneyland.

The Paraguayan swimmer lives in the USA, and in an update on her Instagram account, you can see that she is back in the States.

– We thank her for following our instructions. It was she herself who chose to spend a night outside the Olympic village, says Schaerer.

Alonso also represented Paraguay at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.

Luana Alonso has not commented on the matter.
