According to a report from The Information, which relies on information from a Microsoft employee and another person familiar with the matter, the launch of the new Blackwell chip B200 will be delayed by at least three months due to a design flaw discovered “unusually late in the production process.” Nvidia has reportedly already informed Microsoft (NASDAQ:) and another major cloud service provider about this delay.

The B200 chips are successors to the highly popular and hard-to-obtain H100 chips, which power a large part of the AI cloud landscape.

A Nvidia spokesperson, John Rizzo, told The Verge that production of the chip would ramp up in the second half of the year. However, he declined to comment further on rumors.

Due to the delay, Nvidia apparently has to conduct new test runs with the Taiwanese chip manufacturer TSMC (NYSE:). As a result, large quantities of the Blackwell chips may not be delivered until the first quarter of 2025. According to The Information, Microsoft, Google (NASDAQ:), and Meta (NASDAQ:) have already pre-ordered chips worth “tens of billions of dollars.”

The uncertainty is reflected in the stock performance: In an already weak market environment, the stock price on the Tradegate (TG:) trading platform fell by nearly 13% to €85.74.
