The Xeneize drew 1-1 with Guapo at La Bombonera and remained six points behind Huracán, the leader, in the ninth round of the tournament. Maximiliano Zalazar and Milton Giménez scored the goals.
Boca tied 1-1 with Barracas Central at La Bombonera with goals from Maximiliano Zalazar, the author of the law of the former, and Milton Giménez, who debuted with a great backheel goal, in the ninth round of the 2024 Professional League.
Guapo took advantage of a good start to the game with a cross-shot from Zalazar from long distance, after being assisted by Rodrigo Herrera, six minutes into play. A shout that increased the high percentage of goals conceded by the Xeneize before halftime.
Boca, on the other hand, could not translate possession into dangerous situations. The crosses from Lautaro Blanco or the efforts from Exequiel Zeballos and Miguel Merentiel were the only arguments used to trouble their rivals, due to the lack of midfield participation and the lack of ideas from the flanks.
Everything changed when Giménez’s great backheel equalized the score, after another cross from Blanco, with the inclusion of Merentiel. The team of Diego Martínez closed the first half better with two more clear chances: the post hit by Zeballos (he headed it and the ball bounced off Siro Rosané) and the frontal header from the former Banfield player that went just over.
Both approaches came from crosses from the Beast, the most creative player who compensated for the deficit in the Boca game by dropping a little further back.
In the second half, the home team nullified Barracas Central and sought victory in every possible way. However, they lacked precision and almost regretted it at the end, not only because Gary Medel escaped expulsion, but because the visitors settled better by betting on counterattacks, with Daniel Juárez at the forefront.
Besides the saves by Sergio Romero, the last play was summed up in the controversial penalty that Boca claimed which could have easily been reviewed by Fernando Echenique in VAR. A supposed handball by Gonzalo Goñi in the box after Jabes Saralegui’s shot.
In the end, Boca needed a victory tonight to get back in the race for the 2024 Professional League. They are now six points away from Huracán, the leader.
