Initiated by the Al Mahaba association of social works, with the support of the wilaya of the Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra region and the Regional Directorate of Health and Social Protection, as part of the commemoration of the 48th anniversary of the glorious Green March, this campaign targeted patients in vulnerable situations requiring surgical interventions.
The surgical operations performed during this twelve-day campaign concern four specialties, namely cardiovascular surgery, gallbladder, ureteroscopy and caesarean deliveries.
Similarly, free circumcisions were carried out on 20 children, including those from the sub-Saharan community established in Laayoune, in addition to medical consultations in different specialties.
In a statement to MAP, the regional director of Health and Social Protection, Ali El Haouari, stressed that this campaign targeted people in precarious situations, welcoming on this occasion the mobilization of the medical staff who ensured the smooth running and success of this medico-social initiative.
For his part, Dr. Reda Bzikha, cardiovascular surgeon at the Moulay Hassan Ben Mehdi hospital in Laayoune, indicated that this initiative has enabled the performance of 30 surgical procedures, including angioplasty, carotid or femoral endarterectomy and arteriovenous fistulas.
He also said that these surgical interventions will continue despite the end of the period set for this campaign, noting that all the operations were carried out in good conditions and without any post-operative complications.
For her part, the president of the Al Mahaba association of social works, El Alia Amghrabelha, stressed that this initiative aims to bring health services closer to patients in precarious situations requiring surgical interventions and to ban the waiting list for those facing long waiting times.
This multidisciplinary medical-surgical caravan, which mobilized health executives from different specialties working at the Moulay Hassan Ben Mehdi hospital, took place in good conditions in view of the measures taken for this purpose by the Regional Directorate of Health and Social Protection.
