The civil movement to restore legitimacy to the people condemned Saddam Haftar’s attempt to attack the Sharara field or any oil facility, in an attempt to blackmail the Spanish authorities as one of its companies operating the Sharara field, following the issuance of an arrest warrant by the Spanish authorities against him.
The movement said in a statement that Haftar and his sons’ recent attempts to smuggle weapons and use oil as a pressure and blackmail card confirm that the civil state desired by the February Revolution and the military do not meet, and that the attempts of the UN mission and the countries intervening in Libyan affairs to integrate the military into the political process are considered a blatant violation of the sacrifices made by the people to overthrow the rule of the individual and the family, according to the statement.
The movement called on the Presidential Council, as the supreme commander of the Libyan army, and its General Staff, the Ministries of Defense and Interior in the Government of National Unity, and the Attorney General’s Office, to assume their responsibilities towards their people and to do what is necessary through all legitimate and legal means to preserve the oil and all its facilities and free it from the control of the rebels over the legitimate authorities of the state, according to the statement.
The movement also condemned the silence of the National Oil Corporation on what is happening to the Sharara field, as it is the agent of the Libyan people for oil extraction operations, and its failure to declare force majeure due to the attempt to completely or partially close the field or even threaten to close it, according to the statement.
The movement also denounced the Central Bank’s silence on what is happening in the Sharara field and its failure to condemn its closure and its silence on the demand not to close any oil facility because of the deficit in financing public spending and the burden on the citizen as a result of the infringement of the closure on his only source of income, according to the statement.
The movement called on the Libyans to hold a serious peaceful stand to demand parliamentary elections and renew the selection of their representatives in a parliament that would unite the divided state institutions and end the conflict over executive authority, according to the statement.
