State Attorney General Diana Salazar issued a strongly worded statement on Thursday denouncing the unauthorized disclosure of her high-risk pregnancy status.
The Legislative Administration Council (CAL) of the National Assembly had temporarily suspended an impeachment trial against him, due to his medical condition, in accordance with a binding criterion of the State Attorney General’s Office. Legislator Gissela Garzón, proponent of the impeachment, had requested follow-up on the treatment of the suspended process.
In her statement, the Attorney General stressed that she promptly informed the CAL about her health status through a medical certificate validated by the Ecuadorian Social Security Institute (IESS), in compliance with the relevant legal and constitutional procedures. She stressed that the disclosure of confidential information about a woman’s pregnancy violates multiple national and international regulations that protect the privacy and confidentiality of personal data.
“This leak, unfortunately caused by third parties, violates my fundamental rights as a citizen and a pregnant woman. My private life and the safety of my family should not be the subject of public scrutiny,” she added.
The Attorney General urged the competent authorities to take immediate measures to investigate and punish those responsible for this leak, reaffirming her unwavering commitment to protecting the privacy and dignity of individuals, especially in the exercise of public functions of high responsibility.
