The overall index of consumer confidence in July 2024 increased by 5.6 points from its April level. An improvement in consumer confidence was reported both among the population in the cities and among the population in the villages – by 4.5 and 8.8 points, respectively, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) announced today.

A reference in NSI indicates that consumer confidence in April increased by 1.5 points compared to January as in

cities and villages – by 1.3 and 1.6 points, respectively.

In July, consumers continued to believe that consumer prices had risen over the past twelve months, but at a slower pace than estimates recorded in April. At the same time, their inflation expectations for the next twelve months are less pronounced. In April, consumers’ inflation expectations for the next twelve months strengthened, according to a reference in the NSI.

In July, a slight improvement was registered in the general assessment of the conditions for saving in the current economic situation in the country, and a certain positive change in expectations for the next twelve months was also observed. The latest survey also reports a slightly more positive outlook in consumers’ intentions to spend on durable goods, “buying or building a home (cottage)” and “home improvements” in the next twelve months.

An inquiry into the NSI indicates that in April there was a decrease in negativity in the assessments of consumers about the changes in the financial situation of their households in the last twelve months compared to January, and their forecasts for the next twelve months were favorable. Also in April, the attitude of consumers was more positive in their intention to buy items for long-term use, a car and for home improvements, writes BTA.
