Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro announced that he will stop using WhatsApp and will use Telegram and WeChat, urging his followers to do the same.
“How many of you have been threatened by criminals? In what way? Today I will publicly cut off my ties with WhatsApp because it is used to threaten Venezuela. I will delete it from my phone and transfer my contacts to Telegram and WeChat. This is essential. Say no to WhatsApp! It has fallen from Venezuela. There are criminals who threaten young people and leaders in Colombia, Miami, Peru, and Chile.” Maduro said in a meeting with his supporters, according to VTV.
He claimed that threats via WhatsApp have been sent to the military, police, and street leaders in Venezuela, as well as to those who oppose the government.
Earlier, during a meeting with military personnel, Maduro criticized TikTok, Instagram, and WhatsApp, accusing them of spreading hatred in Venezuela.
Venezuela experienced widespread protests following the announcement of President Nicolas Maduro’s victory in a new presidential term, despite the opposition disputing the results and alleging fraud.
