How to Block or Mute Unwanted Contacts on Telegram
Not every contact in Telegram is a welcome presence. Thankfully, this popular messaging platform offers a straightforward way to block or mute unwanted users.
Blocking Unwanted Contacts:
Sometimes, someone might harass or persistently bother you on Telegram. Fortunately, you have complete control over your contacts and can choose who can reach you.
Blocking someone in Telegram is a simple process:
- Identify the contact you want to block.
- Tap the three dots next to their name in the chat list.
- Select “Block Contact.”
That’s it! You have successfully blocked the contact and are protected from any future messages from them.
Unblocking a Contact:
If you change your mind about blocking someone, you can easily unblock them:
- Open the Telegram settings menu.
- Locate and tap ”Blocked Users.”
- Select the contact you want to unblock.
Muting Contacts Temporarily:
For situations where you don’t want to completely cut off communication, you can mute a contact. This allows you to read their messages but prevents them from receiving notifications.
- Open the chat with the contact you want to mute.
- Tap the contact’s name at the top of the chat.
- Select “Mute” from the menu.
You can unmute the contact at any time by repeating the process and selecting “Unmute.”
Note:
- Blocked contacts do not receive any explicit notification that they have been blocked.
- While hiding your Telegram number used to be a way to bypass blocks, this is no longer possible.
- If you’ve been blocked by someone, creating a new Telegram account is the only way to reconnect.
