Hotel Collapse in Western Germany Leaves One Dead, Eight Trapped
At least one person has died and eight remain trapped after a hotel partially collapsed in western Germany.
The collapse was reported by the police of the city of Trier, citing information from TASS news agency.
The incident occurred on Wednesday night in the town of Kröff in the federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate, approximately 50 km northeast of Trier.
According to the police, the supports of one of the floors of the building collapsed. At the time of the emergency, there were 14 people in the hotel, five of whom were able to escape on their own. “According to the information available at the moment, nine people are under the rubble. One of them has died, but the body has not yet been removed. Eight people, including those with serious injuries, are trapped in the building,” the police said in a statement.
Thirty-one people were evacuated from neighboring buildings. The threat of further collapse complicates rescue operations. Approximately 250 police officers, firefighters, rescue workers, and medics are on site. Rescuers were able to establish contact with some of the people under the rubble.
