It has already been reported that Gailums finished 11th in their group in the qualification competition and did not qualify for the final competition.
“We’ll see how serious the injury is. If I were completely crazy, I wouldn’t be jumping around here. I’ll be a resident,” said the Latvian athlete.
“I put a block on the last throw and there was some kind of bump on the leg. It was the leg of the block. At the moment it is still difficult to comment on what may or may not be there. I just felt that something was not right. There is some pain, but it is not such that it should fall from the legs afterwards,” explained Gailums, adding that the pain was not too great.
Gailums’ first attempt was not counted, reaching 77.26 meters in the second. In the third attempt, he threw the javelin within 82 meters, but he stepped a little on the sector line, so the result was not counted.
“Together with emotions, adrenaline and a fast track, I overcame the first throw. The second attempt already promised to be half as good, but from a technical point of view I made it a little too short, so the javelin in the end ”exploded” in the air and stuck into the ground like a pole,” highlighted the javelin thrower.
“We managed to make the last attempt longer, as we talked with the coach, but you get to the last attempt, your legs are relatively fresh and the track is really fast, it carries you forward a lot. Even without that knee, I would have flown over anyway. In any case, I would have been on lines. Of course, it would be nice to mark the Olympics with 82 meters,” he continued.
After the competition, the Latvian athlete will undergo medical tests to determine the seriousness of the injury.
At the Paris Games, Latvia will be represented by 29 athletes in 14 sports: 3×3 basketball, BMX supercross and freestyle, show jumping, equestrian sports, mountain biking, shooting, modern pentathlon, swimming, beach volleyball, weightlifting, road cycling, tennis and athletics.
