On August 8th, <a href="https://time.news/bts-separation-hib-lost-1-7-billion/" title="BTS separation; Hib lost $ 1.7 billion”>Big Hit Music, BTS’ agency, issued an apology regarding member Suga. The statement was posted on the Weverse fan community.
The agency expressed deep regret for disappointing fans and apologized for releasing a statement prematurely without thoroughly investigating the incident.
Regarding Suga’s description of the vehicle he was driving under the influence as an “electric kickboard,” Big Hit Music clarified that the product was actually a kickboard with a saddle, which they mistakenly referred to as an “electric kickboard.”
The company acknowledged that the classification of the product could vary depending on its specifications and that the associated liability could differ.
Big Hit Music also apologized for the fines and license revocation issued to Suga, explaining that they mistakenly believed the matter had been resolved after a breathalyzer test. They expressed sincere regret for the misinformation.
The agency stated that both BTS and Big Hit Music take full responsibility for their actions and apologize for setting a poor example during their military service.
The police in Yongsan, Seoul, are investigating Suga for violating the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving). The incident occurred on the night of August 6th when Suga was found intoxicated while riding a vehicle in Hannam-dong. His blood alcohol level exceeded the legal limit.
Big Hit Music reported that Suga was riding an “electric kickboard” while intoxicated and fell while attempting to park the vehicle. He received a fine and had his license revoked.
The agency emphasized that no casualties or property damage resulted from the incident.
Suga also issued an apology through Weverse, expressing regret for violating traffic laws and taking responsibility for his actions.
However, there is some discrepancy between Suga’s statement and the police report. The police claim Suga was riding an “electric scooter,” while the agency and Suga both stated he was on an “electric kickboard.”
The potential classification of the vehicle will likely influence the severity of the punishment. If identified as an “electric kickboard,” Suga will face a fine of 100,000 won. However, if it is classified as an “electric scooter,” he could face criminal charges with potential for imprisonment or a hefty fine.
