Runners React to Camera Incident During 5000m Semifinals
In the semifinals of the 5000 meters, two runners, Jakob Asserson Ingebrigtsen and Narve Gilje Nordås, secured their spots in the final with impressive times. However, their experiences differed significantly.
Both heats had unusual interruptions. With about 1000 meters remaining in one semifinal, a cameraman inadvertently stepped onto the track, causing chaos. Ingebrigtsen noticed the incident and gestured towards the cameraman.
“It’s clear that it disrupts many, definitely. It’s amateurish. Such things shouldn’t happen at the Olympics,” Asserson Ingebrigtsen said.
Despite the disruption, both runners advanced to the final.
Other Results and Reactions
Ingebrigtsen, who finished fourth in the 1500 meters, expressed disappointment but remained optimistic about his chances in the final.
Nordås, who won his semifinal despite a shaky start, joked about his pre-race preparations and expressed confidence in the final.
Drama at the Finish Line
The finish of the other semifinal was marred by drama. Several runners, including Dominic Lobalu, George Mills, Mike Foppen, and Thierry Ndikuwemnayo, fell at the line. Mills blamed Frenchman Hugo Hay for the incident.
The incident resulted in the final having 20 runners instead of the usual 16.
