El Salvador: Security Measures and Traffic Concerns During Holidays
The Salvadoran Civil Protection agency has released a detailed report outlining the security measures implemented during the first three days of the August holidays, a pivotal period for tourism and recreation in the country.
During this period, authorities have deployed over 50,000 personnel across various tourist destinations to ensure the safety of both locals and visitors. Monitoring has been concentrated in popular areas such as parks, beaches, restaurants, forests, and shopping centres.
Data collected during the first three days of the holiday period paints a concerning picture regarding traffic safety. A total of 166 accidents were recorded, resulting in four fatalities and 94 injuries. This highlights the need for ongoing vigilance and additional preventive measures to mitigate road risks.
Furthermore, 30 drivers were apprehended for driving under the influence of alcohol, emphasizing the importance of heightened awareness campaigns and stricter traffic controls during the holiday season to ensure road safety.
