Bangladesh: Nobel Peace Prize Winner Muhammad Yunus Sworn in as Interim Government Leader
Dhaka, Bangladesh – Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus was sworn in as the head of Bangladesh’s interim government on Thursday, following Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s sudden resignation amidst a popular uprising.
The ceremony took place at 9:22 PM on Thursday night and was attended by 14 out of the 17 members of the interim government. The oath was administered by Cabinet Secretary Mahbub Hossain.

Dr. Shanti: Nobel Peace Prize winner and renowned economist.
Saleh Uddin Ahmed: Former Governor of Bangladesh Bank.
Dr. Asif Nazrul: Faculty of Law, Dhaka University.
Adilur Rahman Khan: Editor of human rights organization Odhikar.
AF Hasan Arif: Former Advisor to Caretaker Government and Former Attorney General.
Touhid Hossain: Former Foreign Secretary.
Syeda Rizwana Hasan: Chief Executive of Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association (BELA) and Supreme Court lawyer.
Md. Nahid Islam: Coordinator of anti-discrimination student movement.
Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan: Coordinator of Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
Brigadier General (retd) M Sakhawat Hussain: Security Analyst.
Supradeep Chakma: Former ambassador.
Farida Akhtar: Executive director of the government agency UBINIG (Policy Research on Development Options).
