Survivors Foundation Honors Two Minors with Plaque
On Thursday, August 8, the Survivors Foundation unveiled a plaque in memory of two young victims, Alba Michelle España Díaz and Kenneth Alexis López, who tragically disappeared in 2007 and 2009 respectively. The play area of the foundation was named “Alba-Kenneth” in their honor.
The Survivors Foundation revealed the plaque to commemorate the 14th anniversary of the establishment of the Alba-Kenneth Alert, a mechanism designed to locate missing, lost, or stolen children and adolescents.
Alba Michelle’s Case:
Alba Michelle disappeared from the La Barrera neighborhood in Camotán, Chiquimula on June 14, 2007, the day before her 9th birthday. Her body was found with signs of violence. Jesús Interiano Recinos and Marisol Martínez Payes were sentenced to 50 years in prison for her murder.
Kenneth Alexis’ Case:
Kenneth Alexis disappeared in the Linda Vista neighborhood of Jalapa on December 16, 2009. His body was found on December 23, 2009. Santos Matilde López and Carla Izmenia Morán Aguilar were sentenced to 50 years in prison for his murder.
The Alba-Kenneth Alert:
The Survivors Foundation explained that the Alba-Kenneth Alert facilitates the search and location of missing children and adolescents. It was established in 2010 following the tragic cases of Alba and Kenneth.
The alert has been instrumental in locating 3,163 minors since its inception. There are currently 736 missing children and adolescents whose whereabouts are still unknown.
