## News: Former Judicial Police Director Released from Prison
On the night of Tuesday, August 6, the former director of the Judicial Police of the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Puebla, Hugo Adolfo Karam, accused of torturing journalist Lydia Cacho, was released from the Cancun prison in Quintana Roo.
According to initial reports, the order was carried out following the defense securing protection measures, allowing Karam to stand trial outside of prison.

After his release, Karam reunited with his wife and their legal representatives, who continue to work on his defense.
It’s worth noting that in 2005, Karam was accused of participating in the torture of journalist Lydia Cacho after she exposed a pedophilia network in Mexico in her book, ‘The Demons of Eden’.
The Attorney General’s Office (FGR) arrested Karam Beltrán in July 2023 in Boca del Río, Veracruz, for his alleged involvement in the torture of his plaintiff.

Reports indicate that during his tenure as director of the Judicial Police, Hugo Adolfo Karam received orders from the then governor of Puebla, Mario Marín Torres, to issue an arrest warrant against the journalist, who was allegedly tortured and humiliated following the publication of her book.
