The Metrobús is a public transportation system of rapid transit buses that operates in Mexico City. On Sunday, June 19, 2005, the first Metrobús corridor in Mexico City was launched, which began operations on the Indios Verdes-Doctor Gálvez section with a fleet of 80 articulated buses.
The implementation of the Metrobús emerged as a cheaper mobility alternative to the Metro, which requires very expensive infrastructure and entails major impacts.
Features of the Metrobús
- Articulated buses: Metrobús buses are articulated, which allows them to transport a greater number of passengers.
- Exclusive lanes: It has specific lanes that allow you to circulate without interference from vehicle traffic.
- Fixed stops: They are fixed and have infrastructure for the purchase of tickets and waiting for passengers.
- Card payment: The Metrobús uses a rechargeable card payment system, which makes access easier for passengers.
- Frequency: Metrobús buses run every 2 to 5 minutes, depending on the time and demand.
- Integration with other means of transport: It integrates with other modes of transport, such as the Metro, Light Rail, Mexibús, to facilitate the movement of passengers.
- The cost of the ticket is 6 pesos
- Hours: The service operates from Monday to Saturday from 4:30 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. Sundays and holidays from 5:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m.
Metrobús Lines
Currently, this transport, which reduces traffic, improves air quality, accessibility and contributes to the economy of users, has seven lines in total.
- Line 1: Indios Verdes – Caminero (46 stops)
- Line 2: Tepalcates-Tacubaya (34 stops)
- Line 3: Tenayuca – Santa Cruz Atoyac Town (38 stations)
- Line 4: Buenavista – T1 and T1 (via Ruta Norte). The cost is $30 MXN
- Line 5: Remedies River – Preparatory School (51 stations)
- Line 6: Vila de Aragon-El Rosario (31 stops)
- Line 7: Green Indians- Campo Marte (31 stops)
The Metrobús has also incorporated a new temporary support service to the Velódromo to Pantitlán route due to the maintenance of Line 9 of the Collective Transport System (STC) Metro.
