The Supreme Council of State expressed its deep concern about the military movements it described as suspicious in the southwestern region by Haftar’s forces during the past two days, noting that they come in a blatant and clear attempt to increase influence and control over important strategic areas with neighboring countries.
In a statement obtained by “Ain Libya”, the council announced its strong rejection of these illegal movements that are taking place outside the official and legitimate frameworks represented by the Supreme Commander of the Libyan Army and the relevant military authorities.
The State Council considered that these moves may result in a return to armed conflict that threatens the ceasefire agreement and efforts to unify the military institution, and leads to the collapse of the political process.
The statement called on the Presidential Council, in its capacity as the Supreme Commander of the Army and the Head of the Government of National Unity, in its capacity as Minister of Defense and Chief of General Staff, to raise the state of readiness and preparedness to confront any potential danger resulting from these illegal movements.
The State Council also called on the United Nations Mission in Libya and the international community to take a clear position towards these unjustified and illegal moves, and to condemn them clearly and explicitly for the direct threat they pose to the ceasefire agreement and efforts to unify the military institution and resume the political process.
