2024 Paris Summer Olympic Games: Azerbaijan’s Athletes Continue Strong Performance
The 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris continue, and Azerbaijani athletes have been making their mark on the competition. Three more athletes have joined the fray today, while one has finished their fight.
Our team arrived in the French capital with a total of 48 athletes and are represented in 17 programs across 15 different types. Already, 36 of our athletes have begun their Olympic journey, and three have already achieved podium finishes.
Judoka Hidayat Heydarov (73 kg) and Zelim Kotsoyev (100 kg) claimed gold medals and proudly sang the Azerbaijani national anthem. Taekwondo athlete Gashim Magomedov (58 kg) secured silver with his second-place finish. Boxer Alfonso Dominguez also secured a silver medal by advancing to the finals.
So far, 34 athletes have concluded their participation in the Games. Alfonso Dominguez and Hasrat Jafarov remain in the running. Additionally, 12 athletes will be competing in the final days of the competition, including 6 artistic gymnasts and 6 freestyle wrestlers.
Notable Results:
Archery: Yaylagul Ramazanova advanced to the final after finishing 39th in the qualifying round.
Badminton: Keisha Fatima Zahra suffered a defeat in the group stage.
Boxing: Alfonso Dominguez secured a place in the semifinals, while Malik Hasanov and Murad Allahverdiyev were eliminated in the 1/8 finals.
Judo: Hidayat Heydarov (73 kg) and Zelim Kotsoyev (100 kg) won gold medals, while Balabey Agayev (60 kg) and Yashar Najafov (66 kg) lost in the 1/8 finals.
* Rowing: Diana Dymchenko secured a spot in the quarter finals after finishing third in her group.
