Passenger Rights in Case of Flight Cancellation
PTAC reminds passengers of their rights in the unfortunate event their flight to a country is cancelled. In such a case, passengers are entitled to:
A ticket refund: Within seven days of cancellation.
A return flight: To the original point of departure or a route change to the destination.
If the passenger chooses to change their route, the airline must provide a free alternative flight to reach their destination as soon as possible. Additionally, if the wait for the alternative flight is two hours or more, the airline must provide care for the passenger.
If the departure of the new flight is at least one day after the cancelled flight, the airline must offer hotel accommodation and transport to the hotel.
Passengers are also entitled to monetary compensation based on the distance of the flight:
Within 1,500 kilometers: 250 euros
Within the EU (more than 1,500 kilometers): 400 euros
1,500-3,500 kilometers: 600 euros
However, airlines are not obligated to pay compensation if the flight is cancelled due to:
Extraordinary circumstances
Advance notice of cancellation more than two weeks before the flight
Notice of cancellation less than two weeks before departure, as long as the proposed alternative flight follows the original route and schedule.
Please note that no additional compensation will be paid for flights cancelled due to security situations, but the ticket price will be refunded.
