Smart Traffic Lights Enhance Safety in Daugavpils
LMT, a leading technology company, has deployed smart traffic lights in Daugavpils in cooperation with the local authorities. These high-resolution control systems will operate in test mode for six months.
The intelligent traffic lights are equipped with advanced capabilities to:
Recognize and classify objects
Determine their trajectory and location
Recognize and read car numbers
Detect traffic light signals
Within six months, these smart lights will be relocated to two additional intersections with heavy traffic. Following the testing phase, the Daugavpils Communal Administration will decide whether to purchase or rent the equipment.
The deployment of these devices is aimed at enhancing traffic safety. Cameras installed at strategic intersections will capture violations such as running red lights. This data will be processed and forwarded to the municipal police for assessment.
While the technology is currently in test mode, no penalties will be imposed. The primary goal is to prevent violations and improve overall safety.
LMT notes that similar smart traffic light systems have already been implemented in other Latvian cities like Liepāja, Riga, and Jurmala. The technology has also been adopted in Graz, Austria, and Vilnius, Lithuania.
