Sheikh Hasina Resigns, TV Producer Promises Political Satire
On August 5, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned amidst public protests. An interim government was sworn in the following night, with Nobel laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus at its helm.
Mustafa Saryar Faruqi, a talented producer, has been a vocal supporter of the ongoing anti-discrimination movement. He has taken a temporary break from his online activism but promises to return with something “naughty” for the audience.
On Thursday night, Faruqi wrote, “Today the new government will take over. At one time I was thinking that there is no freedom from this fascism in our lifetime. The youth of Bengal from all walks of life have given us the desired freedom. A hiatus from my online activism by saluting them all and congratulating Professor Yunus.”
Faruqi hinted at a new project related to political satire, stating, “Now it’s time to go back to my own work. During the previous interim government I made ‘420’. What strange whims of nature are coming again, something evil, that too during another interim government, which I am shooting during Fascism. By god you don’t vibe after it’s release I already knew that the interim government would come at this time. How dare I make this?”
Faruqi is known for his satirical TV serial drama ‘420’, which explores political themes. He has previously acted in various roles, including Musharraf Karim, Nusrat Imroz Tisha, and Lutfar Rahman George.
