Over 22,600 people between the ages of 16 and 64 have undergone training to enhance their digital skills and competencies. Data from the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy (MLSP) indicates that a total of approximately 62,500 individuals have expressed interest in such training. This training is being facilitated by a project within the National Recovery and Sustainability Plan, with support from training providers registered with the Employment Agency. Those who successfully complete the courses can receive certification through an exam administered by the Center for Human Resources Development and Regional Initiatives at the Ministry of Education and Culture.
Improving skills, acquiring additional qualifications, and retraining are crucial steps in boosting labor productivity in the face of technological advancements and the rise of artificial intelligence. By nurturing a skilled workforce and embracing innovation in production processes, we can ensure greater competitiveness and economic growth for Bulgaria.
It is time to pay greater attention to the “silver economy,” recognizing the valuable experience of retirees. We propose creating a platform that connects employers with skilled retirees, allowing them to contribute their expertise to product development or train young personnel within enterprises. This would not only combat isolation among the elderly but also retain their valuable contributions to the country’s economic and social life. However, legislative measures such as the Employment Promotion Act need to be addressed to facilitate their reintegration into the workforce. These discussions require sufficient parliamentary and administrative attention. I hope that the upcoming Parliament will be ready for open dialogue, to share our visions for development and to initiate meaningful action on these pressing issues.
